First things first, what is the Matrix?

It sounds rather sci-fi and no doubt the image of Keanu Reeves has suddenly appeared in your mind. Well in fact, the idea of the Matrix is rooted in scientific theory: In 1944, Max Planck, whom many consider the father of quantum theory, shocked the world by saying that there was a ‘matrix’ of energy that provided the blueprint for our physical reality.

In the 21st century the concept has been popularized by writers such as Lynne McTaggart and Gregg Braden, and also through films such as The Secret and What the Bleep Do We Know?

Various names are attributed to this universal field, such as simply The Field, God, the Universe, the Divine or indeed, the Matrix. Essentially we’re talking about an energy that is conscious of itself, and which connects us all.

Our personal, cultural and family fields are held within this universal energy field, this matrix of energy. From a religious or spiritual perspective, this isn’t a new concept. In fact it pre-dates the Bible and mentions of the Matrix can be found in every world religion. It’s also known as the Akashic records, a dimension of consciousness containing a vibrational record of every soul and its individual journey. The Akashic records are constantly being updated and all information, past, present and future is held there.

We can also tune in to our personal field of information quickly and can even tune in to other people’s fields and read their information. This goes some way to explain how intuition and telepathy work.

So, what would you say to your five-year-old self?

If all selves are stored in our subconscious, our personal energy field (which is part of the larger universal Matrix), then what Matrix Reimprinting offers is an easy and creative way to release trauma held in our past memories – which contain our inner-children, or past-selves.

And you can do this by tapping on those past-selves.

Being a Now-Ager, you’ve probably heard about EFT or Tapping, the self-help technique that involves tapping on acupressure points on your face and body. It relieves the flight or fight response that was learnt previously when you were in a time of trauma or powerlessness. For example, a fear of public speaking may be traced back to being laughed at while standing at the front of the class as a five-year-old.

There have been many scientific studies and overwhelming empirical evidence that Tapping has helped people squash food cravings, reduce anxiety, eliminate phobias and overcome abuse; in one study, it dramatically reduced PTSD symptoms among veterans.

It is studies such as these and endorsements from self-help pioneers such as Louise Hay, Jack Canfield, Deepak Chopra and Cheryl Richardson that has seen the use of Tapping accelerate in the last few years.

And by wedding these two principles – Tapping and the Matrix – the healing effects can be fast and sometimes quite astonishing.

Imagine stepping into your personal Matrix, your subconscious mind, and talking to the same five-year-old self who felt ashamed and traumatized for being laughed at. In your mind’s eye you tap on that younger self, release all the negative energy and the flight/fight response.

This leaves that part of you free from trauma. You then converse with that part of you again to create a positive picture. For example, the child reading out a story and being applauded by her classmates, feeling great and believing that there is nothing to fear about standing at the front of the class.

The next step would be to reimprint this memory, which is a simple process of visualizing the positive picture, flooding it through the body and sending it out from the heart into the Matrix – which will attract it like a giant magnet.

The result is that your subconscious no longer Googles the trauma of that five-year-old standing up to speak every time you need to address a room of people. Instead, it pulls up the positive reimprinted picture.

If all selves are present in the matrix, you can go back to all the traumatic events in your life, big, small, indifferent or just niggling memories. You can help the parts of you that are stuck in the fight or flight response and release it.

Whereas basic Tapping is like watching a movie of your memories and using Tapping to release the trauma, Matrix Reimprinting is like stepping into a play, the theatre of your own mind.

Karl Dawson is the creator of the technique and has trained over 3,000 practitioners worldwide. His new Hay House book, which I co-authored with him, is a step-by-step guide to using Matrix Reimprinting, and is packed full of transformative case studies. It also covers areas such as conscious parenting, grief and loss, pain management, abuse, body image and achieving your goals, and is endorsed by the likes of Lynne McTaggart, Bruce Lipton PhD, Robert Holden PhD, Sonia Choquette and Jessica Ortner.
