MY MYSTICAL WEEK

In times of radical transformation, sometimes the best thing is to just embrace your inner Material Girl – retail therapy, red wine dance parties and all. Here’s what else went down in my Mystical Week…Portrait: Thomas Giddings

I feel like everyone around me is talking about what a crazy time the last few weeks have been. Like, forget everything you thought you knew or thought you wanted and thought you thought, and put a whole new spin on it. Which makes sense considering we’re in the depths of Scorpio season, the sign that’s all about transformation, death and rebirth.

And as much as on paper this sounds pretty awesome (we all need to hit the refresh button sometimes, right?) in the flesh it can feel like being turfed out of your human suit with no eviction notice. Maybe it’s the current Pluto (power and transformation) Mars (action and initiative) conjunction in Capricorn (life lessons and responsibility), but it’s like we’re being hit with a non-negotiable leap out of our comfort zone in the name of personal evolution. Yikes!

It’s times like this, when it’s almost like I’m watching myself evolve from the deeper recesses of my psyche, that I choose to actively embrace the belief systems of my inner Material Girl. Retail therapy, red wine and random dance parties can be exactly what I need to get myself back into my body and the world.

This week, I have also been so so grateful for the incredible women in my life – women like my buddy Gabby Bernstein, who fearlessly lives her own process every day, always tells it like it is, and who’s birthday we celebrated (a week late) on Saturday. I even gave her this book to let her know just how AWESOME I think she is.

It was also the week I met a new soul sister (as in, we discovered we share the same birthday, love of astrology and taste in extremely cute shearling booties) in Amanda Chantal Bacon, founder of rad LA juice company Moon Juice :: finally got some quality hang time with the mind-blowingly brilliant Laura Hames Franklin, founder of something called Wholly Shift (um, amazing), creator of #wedanceday (see below), and proponent of Superhuman Breakfasts :: and got told by everybody I met that’s it’s Fire Cider season (seriously, Fire Cider is suddenly a “thing” – they’re even hosting a Fire Cider making workshop at Maha Rose on 11/23).

I also did a huge closet clear out (seeing as the new, evolved me is going to need a new, evolved wardrobe) and put these Miu Miu sandals on eBay (so cool, but so “old me”) :: picked up a pair of perfect hot yoga pants from British fit fashion brand Lucas Hugh :: and discovered these beautiful organic, wildcrafted, biodynamic PERFUMES OF THE ZODIAC (I mean…) by Strange Invisible Perfumes.

Then, just last night at a meditation workshop hosted by Lole (who also happen to make the yoga bag I’m currently obsessed with), I got a lesson in perspective to carry me forward into this new era. Led by lifestyle coach Cassandra Badzac, she shared a visualization technique for having your “perfect day”, where every morning you take a moment to embody what it would feel like to be your best self in every scenario that lies ahead. An effective reminder that when you find yourself in a place of darkness, sometimes she best way out is just to be the freakin’ light.
