AS fresh energy fills the air after the sun’s annual slide above the equator at the spring equinox, the days get longer, and humanity (in the northern hemisphere) feels the urge to push itself out of it’s winter slumber and get OUT – anywhere, everywhere – just out and on to something new! So it comes as no surprise, then, that it was at this pivotal, and primal, annual moment in 2006 (at 9:40 PM PST on March 21st to be precise) when an innocuous little message went out into the webiverse. It was the first tweet. And Twitter as we know it today will forever bear the stamp of this fresh, alert Aries energy. What’s new? What’s next? Yesterday’s news is old news.
Rounding out Twitter’s astrological signature is the moon in Sagittarius, another assertive fire sign, this one emphasizing international and global themes. Who could overlook Twitter’s massive importance in the transmission (and shaping of) world events, particularly the “Arab Spring” (yet another reference to fresh Aries energy).
Meanwhile, the ascendant for Twitter is passionate and personal Scorpio, perhaps slightly counter-intuitive yet utterly accurate. Twitter, for many, has become the closest thing to a modern journal or diary, a place for people to express their most intimate and personal thoughts and feelings.
Aries and Scorpio are both ruled by Mars, the planet of action – and indeed “to tweet” is now a verb. More than a message, it is an activity, and one with personal, and global, significance.
